Cretan School

One of the main schools of hagiography that developed in Crete during the Renaissance. In the Cretan workshops of the 15th and 17th centuries, the art of portable icons flourished and the Palaeologan tradition continued. Most of the icons in the Museum of Icons of the Hellenic Institute of Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Studies in Venice originate from there.
